5-6. CRANKSHAFT GEAR AND CAMSHAFT GEAR.
FRAME 1
WARNING
U s e welder's gloves to h a n d l e heated crankshaft gear
( 1 ) and camshaft gear ( 2 ) . Hot metal can seriously
burn personnel.
NOTE
Crankshaft and camshaft gears must be put on, and
c a m s h a f t gear retaining nut put on and tightened as
s o o n as possible after the gears are heated. Use 250
T e m p i l s t i c k to check temperature of heated parts.
H e a t crankshaft gear (1) and camshaft gear (2) to 250F.

A l i n e keyway in crankshaft gear (1) with key on crankshaft (3) and push

c r a n k s h a f t gear in place on crankshaft, making sure crankshaft gear teeth
mesh with teeth on oil pump idler gear (4).
A s camshaft gear (2) is being put on camshaft (5), aline keyway in camshaft
3.
g e a r with key on camshaft.
A l i n e timing marks (6) on camshaft gear (2) with timing mark (7) on
4.
c r a n k s h a f t gear (1).
