NOTE

I f no exhaust valve seat inserts (1) were taken out, go

to para 4-19c(2).

T w o sizes of exhaust valve seat inserts (1) are used in

c y l i n d e r h e a d s ( 2 ) . C y l i n d e r head can use a combination

o f exhaust valve seat insert sizes. M e a s u r e each exhaust

v a l v e seat counterbore (3) to tell whether to put in a

s t a n d a r d size or oversize exhaust valve seat insert.

R e a d i n g s must be within limits given in table 4-49. The

l e t t e r T shows a tight fit. I f readings are not within

g i v e n limits, throw away part and get a new one.

M e a s u r e and note inside diameter of three exhaust valve seat counterbores (3).

I f diameter is 1.8080 to 1.8095 inches, this is a standard size exhaust valve

s e a t c o u n t e r b o r e . If diameter is 1.8180 to 1.8195 inches, this is a 0.0100-

inch oversize exhaust valve seat counterbore.

NOTE

U s e d exhaust valve seat inserts, (1) that were not worn

w e r e tagged so they can be put back in the same place.

B e c a u s e machine shop may have machined some standard

s i z e exhaust valve seat counterbores (3) into oversize

e x h a u s t valve seat counterbores, some exhaust valve

seat inserts may be too small.

M e a s u r e and note outside diameter of each exhaust valve seat insert (1) to be

put in. S t a n d a r d size exhaust valve seat inserts go in standard size exhaust
