C h e c k that idler gear (1) has no damaged teeth or scored bearing surfaces (2).
T a k e off minor burrs from gear teeth with fine mill file. If damaged beyond
r e p a i r , get a new idler gear.

C h e c k that idler gear bearing bore (2) is not worn. If worn beyond limits
g i v e n in table 4-4, get a new idler gear.
C h e c k that bearing (3) is not damaged. R e f e r to TM 9-214 and table 4-4. If

b e a r i n g is damaged or worn, get a new one.
4.
C h e c k that retainer ring (4) is not damaged or bent. If part is damaged or
b e n t , get a new one.
