C h e c k that crankshaft gear key (1) has no nicks. Fix minor nicks with a

f i n e oil stone. Get a new key if it has any deep nicks.

C h e c k that crankshaft gear key (1) fits snugly in keyway in crankshaft (2).

I f crankshaft gear key (1) is loose, threw it away and put in a new one.

C h e c k that crankshaft thrust faces (3) have no grooves, scuffing or

discoloration. If any thrust face is grooved, scuffed or discolored, get

a new crankshaft.
