CAUTION
It is easy to damage the equipment if you do not know
w h a t you are doing. Do not try to do this task unless
y o u are experienced a t it or you have an experienced
person with you.
1.
U s e magnetic particle inspection equipment or use strong
light and magnifying
g l a s s to check that crankshaft (1) is not cracked. Look
extra closely around
o i l holes. Look extra closely at corners where crankshaft
journals (2) meet
c r a n k s h a f t thrust faces (3) and where crankshaft cheeks
(4) meet crankshaft
t h r u s t faces.
2.
I f crankshaft (1) is cracked, get a new one and go to frame 21.
WARNING
Dry cleaning solvent is flammable. Do not use near an
o p e n flame. K e e p a fire extinguisher nearby when sol-
v e n t i s u s e d . U s e only in well-ventilated places. Fail-
ure to do this may result in injury to personnel and
d a m a g e to equipment.
Check that crankshaft journals (2) are not deeply nicked, burned, grooved,

s c u f f e d or discolored from overheating. Fix very minor nicks and scratches
w i t h a crocus cloth dipped in dry cleaning solvent.
If crankshaft journals (2) are deeply nicked, burned, grooved, scuffed or

discolored from overheating, get a new crankshaft (1).
