5 - 149 TAIL LIFT - CYLINDER BELLOWS
This task covers:

Shop Set Contact Maintenance Truck HMMWV
Materials Required
Thread locking compound, loctite 243
Equipment Conditions
Access to the tail lift cylinders
WARNING
CRUSH INJURY. TO AVOID INJURY TO PERSONNEL WHEN WORKING ON THE
TAIL LIFT ALWAYS ENSURE THAT THE WEIGHT OF THE TAIL LIFT LIFTING ARM
AND PLATFORM ARE SUPPORTED.
NOTE
The following procedure is applicable for changing the tail lift cylinder bellows on the tail
lift cylinders. The illustration below shows the tilt cylinder (9) and lift cylinder (19). This
procedure can be applied to the swing cylinder (not shown) also.
a.
Remove
Tilt cylinder
(1)
Remove the bolt (3) and washer (2) securing the tilt cylinder (9) pivot pin (1) to the tail lift.
(2)
Remove the pivot pin (1).
(3)
Pull the cylinder (9) clear of the tail lift.
(4)
Note the position of the bellows (6) and slacken off the adjustable clamp (5 and 7).
(5)
Pull the bellows (6) away from the cylinder (9) to expose the piston (8).
(6)
Note and mark the position of the piston pivot (4) on the piston (8).
(7)
Hold the piston (8) with a suitable wrench and remove the piston pivot (4).
(8)
Remove the jubilee clip (5) and bellows (6).
