Take off three nuts (1) and lockwashers (2).

WARNING
Starter
assembly (3) weighs fifty pounds. Be careful
t o hold
it up firmly when taking it off mounting studs.
Starter
could fall and cause injury to personnel and
damage
to equipment.
2.
H o l d starter (3) up and pull it straight out from engine until

starter drive gear is free.
Take off starter adapter (4) and adapter gasket (5). Throw

a w a y starter adapter gasket. T a k e off and throw away starter
gasket (6).
