General.

Overhaul of a special reusable shipping and storage container consists of Its restoration to a like-new condition

3-4. Procedure.

Replace parts as indicated in paragraphs 3-2b through 3-2j. Completely clean, refurbish and refinish the interior and

exterior of the container as follows:

a. Cleaning. In addition to cleaning per paragraph 3-2a, remove stages 3 and 4 corrosion by sandblasting, sanding,

or with a rotating wire wheel. Limit sandblasting to exterior of steel containers

NOTE

To minimize etching, pitting, and material loss, abrasive blast painted aluminum containers

with Dupont's "Starblast Abrasive Sand", or equivalent.

Make certain that sandblasting particles and other foreign material are removed from crevices around seals and gaskets.

b. Dents Eliminate dents by heat-straightening

c. Scratches and Gouges. Eliminate scratches and gouges by fill welding or brazing

d . Welds. Eliminate cracked welds by grinding out and rewelding.

e . Holes. Eliminate holes by heat-straightening metal surrounding holes and covering them with welded patches

Extend patches at least one-half inch in all directions beyond ruptures Rivet patches to main rotor blade box in a manner

that will prevent water from leaking on rotor blade.
