WATER TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT AND ALARMSTAT
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION (CONT).
a.
Removal.
NOTE
Water temperature sending unit and alarmstat are removed and installed in same way.
Water temperature sending unit shown.
(1)  Remove nut (1), lockwasher (2), washer (3), and wire (4), and insulator (5) from sending unit
(6).
(2)  Remove sending unit (6) from thermostat housing (7).
b.  Installation.
WARNING
Adhesives, solvents, and sealing compounds can burn easily, can give off harmful vapors,
and are harmful to skin and clothing. To avoid injury or death, keep away from open fire
and use in well-ventilated area. If adhesive, solvent, or sealing compound gets on skin or
clothing, wash immediately with soap and water.
(1)  Coat threads of sending unit (6) with pipe thread sealing compound, leaving last two threads
bare.
(2)  Install sending unit (6) in thermostat housing (7).
NOTE
Perform step (2.1) if installing alarmstat.
(2.1) Apply thread locking compound to alarmstat terminal (8).
(3)  Install insulator (5), wire (4), washer (3), lockwasher (2), and nut (1) on sending unit (6) and
tighten to not more than 20 lb-in (2.26 NSm).
c.  Follow-on Maintenance.
(1)  Fill cooling system (para 6-2).
(2)  Connect batteries (para 7-91).
(3)  Start and warm up engine, check operation of water temperature sending unit and alarmstat,
and check for leaks (TM 9-2320-279-10).
(4)  Shut off engine (TM 9-2320-279-10).
(5)  Install engine side panel (TM 9-2320-279-10).
(6)  Close engine cover (TM 9-2320-279-10).
