NOTE
T w o types of oil pumps (1) have been used on these
e n g i n e s . Early model pump uses threaded cap (2) to
h o l d pressure relief valve spring (3) and plunger
( 4 ) inside pump. Late model pump uses retaining
p i n (5) and one of two types of spring retainer (6)
t o hold pressure relief valve spring and plunger
inside pump.
C o a t plunger (4) and plunger bore in oil pump (1) with lubricating oil.

Put in plunger.
NOTE
Number of shims (7) will differ from pump to pump.
S o m e pumps may have used no shims. Put back noted
n u m b e r of shims.

Put in shims (7).
P u t in spring (3).

O n early model pumps (1), screw in plug (2).
O n late model pumps (1), put in spring retainer (6) and retaining pin (5).

NOTE
You may have to use an arbor press to push spring
r e t a i n e r (6) in far enough to let retaining pin (5) fit
in pump (1).
