NOTE

C r a n k s h a f t (1) has six connecting rod journals. They

a r e numbered one to six, counting from front to rear.

U s i n g micrometer, measure diameter of number one connecting rod journal (2).

T a k e measurements as close to front and rear ends of connecting rod journal

a s p o s s i b l e . N o t e measurement.

T u r n micrometer 1/4 turn around number one connecting rod journal (2).

D o step 1 again with micrometer in this new position. Note measurement.

Subtract the smaller of the two measurements taken in steps 1 and 2 from the

l a r g e r of two measurements. I f difference is more than 0.0010 inch, journal

( 2 ) is out of round. G e t a new crankshaft (1).

Note the smallest of the four measurements taken in steps 1 and 2 and the

n u m b e r of connecting rod journal (2) it was taken on.

D o steps 1 through 3 again for other five connecting rod journals

( 3 through 7).
