NOTE
This frame tells how to check backlash for all
g e a r s . D o this frame when measuring backlash
for each set of gears in frame 5.
FRAME 14
1.
Mount dial indicator on housing and set stem against side of gear tooth (1) as
shown.
NOTE
When measuring backlash make s u r e that gear (2)
d o e s not turn. I f gear turns, b a c k l a s h readings
w i l l be wrong.
2.
T u r n gear (3) away from dial indicator until gear tooth (4) touches gear tooth
( 5 ) as shown in view A.
3.
Set dial indicator to read 0.
4.
T u r n gear (3) towards dial indicator until gear tooth (6) touches other side of
g e a r tooth (5) as shown in view B.
5.
C h e c k that dial indicator readings are within wear limits given for each set of
gears.
6.
D o steps 1 through 5 when measuring backlash for each set of gears.
