CAUTION
P r e s s u r e relief valve threaded cap (2) or retaining
pin (7) are under spring tension. Be very careful
w h e n taking them out or parts inside oil pump (1)
will be lost.
NOTE
Two types of oil pump (1) have been used on these
e n g i n e s . Early model pump uses a threaded cap (2)
t o hold pressure relief valve spring (4) and plunger (5)
i n s i d e p u m p .  Late model pump uses a retaining pin
( 7 ) and either a washer (8), or one or two types of
spring retainer (9) to hold pressure relief valve spring
(4) and plunger (5) inside pump.
S h i m s (6) are used to set pressure relief valve. Num-
b e r of shims inside pressure relief valve will be different
o n d i f f e r e n t p u m p s ( 1 ) .  S o m e pumps have no shims.

O n e a r l y m o d e l p u m p s ( 1 ) , u n s c r e w and take out threaded cap (2). If
there is a copper gasket (3) under threaded cap, take it out and throw it
away.  Take out pressure relief valve spring (4), plunger (5), and shims
(6).
T a g shims so same number of shims will be put back.

On late model pumps (1) take out retaining pin. (7), washer (8) or spring
retainer (9), plunger (5), pressure relief valve spring (4), and shims (6).
If pump has a washer instead of spring retainer, throw away washer. Tag
s h i m s so the same number of shims will be put back.
