Undercut (fig. 3-4): Measure any undercut using appropriate measuring devices and

check it against the acceptance criteria. The use of modelling clay is particularly convenient

for checking undercut.

NOTE

It is impossible to completely eliminate undercutting during welding particularly in

the case of fillet welds. Local undercut and continuous undercut of 10% and 5% of

the parent metal thickness respectively is acceptable provided that it does not form

a sharp notch.
